WASHINGTON, DC — Today, President Biden announced the Build Back Better framework which includes historic investments in child care and home care, the extension of the Child Tax Credit, universal preschool and a critical expansion of affordable health care coverage. This investment in care infrastructure will be transformative for women and families.

Parents will now have access to high-quality, affordable child care and expanded resources to care for their loved ones with disabilities. Additionally, the extension of the Child Tax Credit to 90% of parents for 2022 will help cover the cost of food, housing, medicine, and transportation and will continue to reduce child poverty. The framework also includes permanent refundability for the Child Tax Credit, meaning that the neediest families will continue to receive the full Child Tax Credit in years to come. This year USOW has worked alongside community partners to ensure that the lowest-income families are able to access this life-changing benefit.

“Thank you to President Biden and the champions in Congress who advocated for and continue to push for the historic investments in women and families, which will lead to years of transformational, equitable change,” said Executive Director of the United State of Women Jordan Brooks. “The care infrastructure policies included in the Build Back Better framework will be a game-changer and we are nowhere near finished fighting. We will continue to work alongside members of Congress to ensure that paid family leave is included in the final legislation alongside these critical investments in caregiving, the Child Tax Credit, universal preschool and home care.”
