WASHINGTON, DC – Today, following her confirmation vote in the Senate, Valerie Jarrett, Board Chair of Civic Nation and leaders of Civic Nation initiatives United State of Women (USOW) and End Rape On Campus celebrated the historic confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.
“The confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a historic step forward and positive reflection of the rich and talented diversity of our country,” said Valerie Jarrett, Civic Nation Board Chair and former Senior Advisor to President Obama. “She is a brilliant and accomplished jurist whose exceptional qualifications, life experiences, and judicial temperament will be a real asset for our democracy. And as the Supreme Court is slated to consider cases in the coming months that will significantly impact civil rights and social justice gains – from voting rights and gender equity to climate change – Judge Jackson will no doubt be an outstanding justice for all.”
“The confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a crucial step towards the advancement of our democracy, especially for survivors of sexual assault,” said Executive Director of End Rape On Campus, Kenyora Parham. “Judge Jackson has an exceptional record, including ruling fairly and impartially for civil, disability, immigration and reproductive rights, as well as the rights of survivors of domestic violence. Judge Jackson’s confirmation is meaningful not just for Black women, who will finally see ourselves represented on the Supreme Court, but also for survivors, who will have a justice who values their civil rights and personhood.”

Despite the many challenges she had to overcome during the confirmation process, her qualifications and experience spoke for themselves. Her confirmation not only brings the Supreme Court closer to representing the diversity of America, but it gives hope to all the Black women and girls, like me, who have been told we are not good enough. We will continue to have her back and those of all the incredible Black women to come after.”
The United State of Women and End Rape On Campus were proud to join with partners at She Will Rise, Black Women’s Roundtable and the National Women’s Law Center, who worked tirelessly to rally broad public support and amplify Judge Jackson’s glowing qualifications. On March 22nd, Parham spoke at a rally in front of the Supreme Court lifting the voices of Black-women led organizations in support of Judge Jackson’s nomination. USOW provided resources for their community to learn about Judge Jackson, push back against attacks on her qualifications and contact their senators in support of her confirmation.
